For a safe and compassionate second-trimester abortion, Virginia Women’s Wellness should be your ultimate destination. Our Board-Certified, all-female team of providers offer you expert abortion care that is safe, gentle, and painless.
The second trimester is generally recognized from 14 to 27.6 weeks. In Viginia, second trimester abortions are legal up to 27.6 weeks, but Virginia Women’s Wellness currently only performs abortions at 26.6 weeks. At Virginia Women’s Wellness, abortions at this stage are done in 1 or 2 days and generally involve twilight anesthesia so that you don’t feel pain and don’t remember the abortion. The care provided to you will be tailored to your circumstances and your body. The process of a second trimester abortion can be safe, gentle, and painless.
In Virginia, second trimester abortion care is legal, and Virginia Women’s Wellness offers second trimester abortions up to 26.6 weeks. Many of our patients travel to us from other states where abortion is restricted or banned. This includes states like North Caolina, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and even from as far away as Texas. If you are from one of these states, and if you are seeking abortion care, either first trimester or second trimester, please understand that it is perfectly legal for you to travel to Virginia and receive abortion care here. You are not breaking any laws by traveling to Virginia Beach. Thousands of tourists travel to Virginia Beach every year to enjoy the sun and fun of the Beach. They are not breaking any laws. And neither are you. You can legally travel to Virginia for any reason you want (despite what some anti-abortion protesters will try to tell you). And once you cross the state line into Virginia, then Virginia law applies. Not the laws of your home state. This means that it is 100% legal for you to drive (or fly) to Virginia Women’s Wellness and receive abortion care here, even though that care would be illegal in your home state.
All care at Virginia Women’s Wellness is strictly confidential. To protect your privacy, your medical records are paper records, not electronic records. This means that the only evidence that you ever had an abortion is written on pieces of paper stored in our steel filing cabinets. Unless you use insurance to pay for your procedure, your medical records do not touch the Internet. And no hacker, no matter how good they are, can electronically pierce our steel filing cabinets and see your paper records. This use of paper records is consciously done by Virginia Women’s Wellness to protect your privacy and your confidentiality.
If you want the ultimate protection of your privacy, ask about having an Anonymous Abortion. But ask about it before giving us your name. With Anonymous Abortion, we will collaborate with you to utilize a process that will allow you to legally use an assigned pseudonym, instead of your real name, on your medical records. You will have to consent to this. You can’t use your medical insurance or a credit card. But this process will enable you to have an abortion where there is no record that you ever had an abortion.
An abortion at 15 weeks is a second-trimester abortion performed by our expert team in a clinical setting. During this phase, the cervix is gently prepared before the process to ensure comfort and safety. Moreover, most patients return home the same day with valuable aftercare tips and support from our experts.
An abortion at 16 weeks involves a similar medical approach. In this phase, cervical preparation might occur before the process to minimize risks and improve safety. Additionally, we also offer detailed pre-process counselling. This way, you can understand what to expect physically as well as emotionally.
An abortion at 17 weeks, is similar to an abortion at 16 weeks, only a little bit further. We make sure to explain each step clearly. Here, recovery may involve cramping or bleeding, which is similar to a heavy menstrual cycle. But this will usually happen only for a short period.
You might require additional cervical preparation for your abortion at 18 weeks. We prioritize pain management options and continuous monitoring to ensure your safety throughout the process.
Abortion at 19 weeks remains a safe medical process when it is done by experienced clinicians. We take time to discuss emotional support resources and answer your questions, both before and after the appointment.
An abortion at 20 weeks might include a slightly longer process time compared to earlier gestations. Here, the process may take two days because some patients might require cervical preparation the day before. Further, we offer precise instructions and transparent guidance while making you aware of custom aftercare planning.
An abortion at 21 weeks is still within the second trimester range. Because you are a little later in your pregnancy, you may need additional medical preparation. Choosing a qualified abortion clinic like ours is the right choice. At Virginia Women's Wellness, patient safety remains our first priority while offering the best of options as per your convenience.
For women who seek abortion at 22 weeks, the process is more involved and may need additional steps. This is due to the fact that you are later into your pregnancy.
For abortion at 23 weeks, you are even further into your second trimester. The abortion process will require two days and many steps. We will discuss medical or maternal health considerations in detail, to make sure you understand the process, recovery expectations, and risks before we proceed.
An abortion at 24 weeks is late in the second trimester and is more involved. The process will take several steps that our team will provide for you.
For an abortion at 25 weeks, you are approaching the end of the second trimester. The abortion process will take at least two days and will involve many steps. You will be provided twilight anesthesia, and we recommend (though we don’t require) that you bring someone with you to help you throughout the abortion process.
An abortion at 26 weeks approaches the upper boundary of the second trimester and the legal limit to perform an abortion on an outpatient basis in Virginia. In this phase, the abortion will take at least two, and possibly three, days. It is more involved. At Virginia Women’s Wellness we will take every possible step we can to ensure your safe and painless abortion.
An abortion at 27 Weeks has reached the boundary limit of 27.6 weeks for the end of the second trimester, as defined by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. This is the absolute latest time that it is legal to have an abortion in Virginia outside of a hospital. Abortions at this late stage are rare. If you require an abortion at this late date, please call our counselors. They will try to help you.
For second trimester abortions, we believe we are the Southern-most abortion provider in the USA (east of New Mexico). If you are coming from the US South, then we are the closest provider to you. Plus, we are very near the beautiful Virginia Beach.
We offer immediate appointments today. At Virginia Women’s Wellness we do not make you wait for weeks for an appointment (like some other providers do). Call us Now. Come in today. Be home tonight.
No mandated waiting period. You can call us today and be seen today. All done in a single daytrip (unless you are farther – when it may take 2 days). Leave in the morning and be home in the evening.
Our kind, caring, supportive all-female support healthcare team is committed to providing you with warm, respectful, accepting, expert care. Our staff have been in your shoes and know how your feel. Our proven track record of over 30 years of safe abortion care. We were the first abortion provider in Virginia Beach.
Our expert, Board-Certified, female providers will take good care of you.
Read our Google Reviews! Read what our patients say about us. We love our patients and they seem to like us back. Patients give us a higher Rating (4.5) than any of our competitors in the Virginia Beach Area and we have more reviews (over 300) than any of our competitors. You can read our google reviews on Google Maps here:
Virginia Women’s Wellness is an all-female team. Many women simply prefer not to have men involved in their gynecological care. We know how you feel. That’s why we’re all women.
We offer Abortion Accompaniment by family and friends (unlike other providers)
We offer Anonymous Abortion to protect your privacy (unlike other providers)
We offer a type of anesthesia known as “Twilight Sleep” (sometimes referred to as conscious sedation). With this anesthesia, you will not feel any pain, and you will not remember the actual abortion. Again, some of our competitors do not offer you anything more than local anesthesia. In which case, you may be wide-awake, and in pain,
Our office is in a small multi-tenant office building. This offers you some discretion and privacy. When you arrive, you are walking into “Franklin Square” (our building). This is different than our competitors who are in single, stand-alone, facilities with their name boldly on the front door. Not that there is anything wrong with this. We applaud their forthrightness. But anyone, such as a protestor, seeing you walk into one of our competitors (e.g. Planned Parenthood or Tidewater Women’s) will know exactly where you are going. There is no hiding it. But that’s not the case with us. If someone sees you walking into Franklin Square, that doe not necessarily mean that you are going to Virginia Women’s Wellness. This provides you with a level of privacy and discretion, that our competitors simply do not offer you.
Although our office is in the Franklin Square office building, we have intentionally decorated it to try to be “friendly” and “homey”. Not cold and clinical. We want our patients to feel welcome and comfortable.
If you have a problem and need to talk to someone right now, our trained, in-house, American-staffed, Call Center is always just a phone-call away.
Believe it or not, we have been astonished by how often patients praise our snacks and movies in their Google reviews. This was just something we did as a thoughtful touch. A friendly gesture for our patients who sometimes wait long times in the Waiting Room. We provide candies, cookies, and chips. And play movies. Apparently, the patients (and their family/friends) love the snacks. Amazingly, it seems like in their reviews, our patients praise our snacks as much as they do our doctors!
