This abortion method consists of two medications that are taken separately to chemically induce a miscarriage up to 14.6 weeks. The first medication is given to you in our facility. The second medication will be provided to you at your appointment to take at home.

Surgical abortions done in the first trimester (14 weeks) are safe, quick, and highly effective. One method is with local anesthesia in which an anesthetic agent (lidocaine) will be administered to numb the cervix before the procedure begins. You will be awake for the procedure and may feel some uterine cramping. However, you do not need a driver to take you home.

Surgical abortions done in the first trimester (14 weeks) are safe, quick, and highly effective. Asleep abortions are done using intravenous sedation which induces a sleep state in which you will not feel any pain and will not remember the abortion procedure.

Second Trimester Abortions are offered at Virginia Women's Wellness by our Board-Certified female providers. These abortions are all done asleep and they are safe, gentle and effective.
